Obedience...It's a Must!
This evening I read an article about a former nun who left her religious community after 20 years of service. She left for many reasons that she states but it all comes down to disobedience. There have been many religious people who have left their communities because of a lack of obedience to their superiors. I read in that same article that no where in the scripture does it say that we must be obedient. Of course that is in error. There are many scripture passages that deal with obedience.
"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." - Hebrews 13-17
St. Paul tells the Hebrews that they must be obedient to those who have rule over them. The big point in this passage is "for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account". Powerful words about those who are to oversee the people of God. Those that are entrusted with the leadership and guidance of the people of God must answer for each and every soul they lead. So, all those who feel that there is no accountability and that it is all about the male leadership of the church, should think twice before spewing these words because these men whom are criticized all have to answer for each and every soul they lead.
All things that are done will be judged. Jesus, the true judge of ALL, will judge all man-kind.
"but if anyone suffers as a Christian, he is not to be ashamed, but is to glorify God in this name. For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?" 1 Peter 4:16-17
Great question placed to us by St. Peter, "What will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?" All those who have been led astray by the teachings of "new-age thinkers" beware.
Obedience is of great importance, there are many references to the importance of obedience to our superiors. If they lead us astray, they know they have to answer for that, but, we must obey and pray for our leaders so that they do not lead the people of God astray.
There have been so many attacks on priests in the past years, but, I have known many good and holy priests who have given their lives to the service of the people of God in His church. Usually those that attack the priests are those who have had a bad experience with a priest, but I can assure you that there are thousands of good, holy, self-sacrificing priests in this world. Because of their example, I will continue to pray for all priests and for all those who constantly persecute these wonderful, God-fearing men.
May God Bless you with his infinite blessings. May Mother Mary lead you to a deeper faith and relationship in Jesus Christ. AMEN
